1- 3 Simple Ways To Control Your Snacking

If you are struggling to control your snacking well then you are in the right place. I’ve totally been there but not really anymore! Throughout my own personal journey and my time coaching others with nutrition I have found 3 tips to help control that urge to snack! The best part is that I am sharing them here with you today in my first episode of the Coffee Donuts Fitness Podcast!

I know some of us are not all about the podcast life and because these tips are super important, I didn’t want to leave you out so today, and going forward I will be giving you the tips, tricks, and advice here as well as the podcast! So how you decide to take it in, is entirely up to you!

I also know that our time is super valuable and as a busy mom, I don’t have a ton of extra time to spend listening to really long podcasts are reading articles so I promise to keep this podcast, and these show notes short and to the point! (With the exception of today because well, I had a lot to say!)

So let’s talk snacking. I know that urge to reach for snacks can be totally overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be that way! When diving into this you may find times where you are actually hungry and others that you are eating really out of boredom, but how do you control it?

#01 Are You Eating Enough?

Whenever I see people struggling to pass up the snacks between meals by first thought is they are cutting too many calories during their meals. I’ve totally been guilty of this. You are trying to lose weight so you try and eat light meals. What ends up happening though is you aren’t eating enough and you reach for snacks. I want you to look at your meals, is there enough in them? Are they balanced? If not, start there!

Add in more lean protein or vegetables and see how that helps you. You might find that small adjustment makes a huge difference over your day. And now you are adding in calories from healthy foods instead of the cookies your kids are eating, or goldfish crackers!

#02 Waiting

Sometimes though you just have the urge to eat snacks. I can relate to this also! When I find myself in this position I like to just pause and wait 5 minutes. So let’s say I come across a snack I want to eat. Instead of just diving in, I will set a timer for 5 minutes. During that time I will go about what I was doing. Maybe that’s emptying the dishwasher or helping my kids with homework. Once that 5 minutes is up, if I really still want the snack, then I go for it.

Usually what happens though is I move on because I wasn’t really hungry to begin with. By the time that timer goes off I have moved to another task and am busy getting it done. This small trick has helped me so much on my own journey!

#03 Cut Up Fruits and Vegetables

This is really the tip of all tips here. My biggest secret, shared with you now! My absolute favorite thing to do is to cut up fruit and vegetables and put them on a large cutting board that stays on our table. I leave it there all day. Whenever anyone is in the mood to snack they have real healthy options right in front of them, myself included!

Moms, this also helps with the “I want a snack” question I’m sure you hear a million times a day!
